issues with xpcshell-test

rene-39
Hi,

currently provided my first patch to bugzilla. I'm now trying to do the
required tests locally on my machine - and it doesn't work.

Starting for instance:

$ ./mozilla/mach xpcshell-test mailnews/compose/test/unit/test_autoReply.js

will result in (complete log at the end):
 0:16.86 LOG: Thread-1 ERROR ReferenceError: registerCleanupFunction is
not defined at
.../comm-central/obj-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/_tests/xpcshell/mailnews/compose/test/unit/head_compose.js:214
...
 0:18.60 LOG: Thread-1 ERROR Unexpected exception ReferenceError: info
is not defined at
.../comm-central/obj-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/_tests/xpcshell/mailnews/compose/test/unit/test_autoReply.js:145
...
 0:19.54 LOG: MainThread INFO INFO | Failed: 1

It seems like something in the xpcshell environment is missing, but I
can't figure out what. If I try to open some xpcshell according to
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Tech/XPCOM/Language_bindings/XPConnect/xpcshell/Reference
, I am also not able to display the javascript version:

$ ./obj-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/dist/bin/run-mozilla.sh
./obj-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/dist/bin/xpcshell
[8127, Unnamed thread 7f554d768040] WARNING: XPCOM objects
created/destroyed from static ctor/dtor: file
.../comm-central/mozilla/xpcom/base/nsTraceRefcnt.cpp, line 171
js> version()
JavaScript error: typein, line 1: ReferenceError: version is not defined

Anybody has an idea where the problem is rooted? I'm really stuck at
this point... what am I doing wrong?

Best regards, Rene

mozilla-central (and I guess comm-central), recently did a major rework
of the APIs available to xpcshell-tests. registerCleanupFunction & info
are the new APIs, so my best guess is that your mozilla-central checkout
is out of date with respect to your comm-central checkout.

Do you have |ac_add_options --enable-tests| in your .mozconfig?

Otherwise our Linux guys Aceman and Magnus should be able to help.

Jörg.

Hi Jörg,

right, I missed that. The time between reading about the configuration
of the build and the upcoming of test-requirement was too long.

Thanks for pointing to it, I'm now building again with tests enabled -
and hopefully I can do these test locally soon.

Best regards, Rene

Tests enabled is the default.
https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/rev/b24e6342d744c5a83fab5c15972e11eeb69d68e6/moz.configure#55

You'd only be affected if you specified --disable-tests (and I doubt
xpcshell would attempt to run at all in that case).

Re: issues with xpcshell-test

rene-39
Hi,

so the issue was on my side, just updated comm-central without
mozilla-central. Now it is working, test are running.

I'm still new to this and "python2.7 client.py checkout" is nice, but if
you don't read any output line by "just working" it will hide the fact
that there is some subrepository inside comm-central.

Thanks for your help,
best regards, Rene
