[iOS] Firefox for iOS v6.0 localization.

Delphine L
* String freeze: Nov 1st
* Localization freeze:  Nov 29
* Strings count:
Total of 26 new strings.
9 were removed.
Total strings: 528

Strings should be available very soon on Pontoon and Pootle.

Release Summary

   -

Code migration to Swift 2.3 / Xcode 8
   -

   Removing iOS 8 Support
   -

   Brings back Session Restore
   -

New Feature: Ability to select custom mailto: handlers [ongoing]
   -

Sync Quality Improvements (Batching, Atomic Uploads / Downloads)

Testing

Automated screenshots for testing 6.0 features should be made available. I
still need to coordinate the timeline here with iOS team - will keep you
posted.

Sign-offs for shipping locales

We'll be continuing to take the top repo commit on the day of l10n freeze
this cycle for the release candidate build.
So on NOV 29th we'll ship the last commit of each locale that meets the
following criteria:
- 100% complete translation with no remaining errors on the web dashboard,
https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~flod/webstatus/?product=firefox-ios
- Have no visible l10n errors upon review of the locale's screenshots
(e.g.,  significant truncation, text overflow, encoding, etc.) besides what
may have already been reported to the iOS team to correct.

Sign-offs for new locales
We will continue to work through Bugzilla for processing new locale
sign-offs. The criteria for shipping these locales will be the same as the
criteria mentioned above.

Finding issues
If you find any issues and file bugs, please CC :delphine to them (there's
no tracking bug at the moment).

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please let us know.

Thank you for your hard work on v6.0 iOS!

Cheers

How should we treat strings added later and included in v6.x branch (i.e. breaking string freeze)?

Re: [iOS] Firefox for iOS v6.0 localization.

We're talking with iOS team right now. Strings that weren't needed in v6
were accidentally landed, so they will back them out. We need to coordinate
with them about this, I'll keep you posted!

So for those of you localizing from Pontoon or Pootle you can just keep on
working as needed. We are fiuguring it out for the rest.

thanks

In reply to this post by Delphine L
Quick update: I've opened up the tracker bug for adding languages to v6:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1318213

Current status for locales can be found there.
L10n deadline is Nov 29th.

Thanks everyone!

Re: [iOS] Firefox for iOS v6.0 localization.

Delphine L
As you know we've reached l10n complete on Nov.29. I've updated the iOS v6
meta bug here, and added the new locale bugs (where you should sign-off on)
as blocking it: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1318213

We've agreed with iOS team to hand in the new list of locales next week, to
give you time to test your work and look at the screenshots if needed.

Please see my initial email here for more info if needed, or reach out to
me if that doesn't answer your question.

thanks!
delphine

Hi Delphine,
Can you please add Fulah to IOS localization? I am done with Android and
working now on Mozilla.org.
Bonne année by the way!

In reply to this post by Delphine L
Hi,

Who should I ask to enable AppStore localization project (for both
Android + iOS) so that we can translate it to Catalan?
[preferable in Pootle]

Thank you!

salut,
jordis

Re: [iOS] Firefox for iOS v6.0 localization.

Delphine L
Hi Jordi!

This is currently possible from either Pontoon or github:
* https://pontoon.mozilla.org/projects/appstores/ (send request to Pontoon
Tech Team for this)
* https://github.com/mozilla-l10n/appstores/

Please note that according to information we have, Catalan does not seem
supported on the App Store yet:
http://www.ibabbleon.com/iOS-Language-Codes-ISO-639.html

Seems like Catalan is supported on the Android Play Store though. Feel free
to reach out to me with any questions about all this!

Thanks!
delphine

Hi,
I can enable Fulah translation for iOS, but I would prefer someone to
first confirm that Fulah is a supported language. Otherwise it makes
no sense to enable translation.

Re: [iOS] Firefox for iOS v6.0 localization.

Julen Ruiz Aizpuru
In reply to this post by Delphine L
Hi everyone,

Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I am wondering
what's the release status of v6.0. It's been a while since
localizations were frozen, and yet there is no iOS 6.0 release out.

At the same time, it looks like the Focus app is getting attention at
the moment, so it results a bit confusing to determine where to put
our time on.

Any clarifications in this regards would be more than welcome, TIA!

Julen.

Re: [iOS] Firefox for iOS v6.0 localization.

Stefan Arentz-5
Hi Julen,

We have Firefox for iOS 6.0 in Review status now and expect to ship it next
week.

The L10N window for Focus is still open. If you think you have time to add
your locale, please do!

(There are about 60 strings - many taken from Firefox)
