bugzilla for idea management

Martin Ankerl
Hi all,

I would like to (ab)use bugzilla as tool to track ideas. For this I need
to customize bugzilla quite a bit: change templates, rename the stati
(unconfirmed, new, ...), rename severity, etc. Are such changes easily
possible, or is some serious hacking required?

Everything you've talked about so far is doable without coding.  Some of
us use it for idea management without such changes already. :)

You need to be far more specific. How do you expect any of us to put a
meaningful difficulty rating on the operation of "changing templates"?

Well my fear is that most of the names of e.g. bug stati are hardcoded,
and cannot be changed easily. I just would like to know if it is a
matter of a few hours to add/remove/rename bug stati (maybe just modify
a table in the database), or a matter of several days/weeks which
require a lot of reading+modifications in the sourcecode.

Most, possibly all, of what you want to do can be done from the templates
without modifying the source code.  The checksetup process requires
editing a bit of code to get drop downs as desired, but that's pretty
straight forward and something that's typically done in BZ installs
anwyay.
