bug 321371 vs bug 362612

Lewis Rosenthal
Hi, all, and Happy New Year.

Peter, I see that you've checked in a fix to the latter bug, above, for
the 1.8 branch. Does that code at all apply to the 1.9 branch? Please
note comments in bug 321371.

Essentially, every so often, the error message concerning truncation of
the Inbox was reported as more cross-platform than discussed concerning
the 1.8 branch in the latter bug.

Cheers, and belated happy holidays, everyone.

Interesting, why didn't I find bug 321371 when the issue came up here?
You can test easily if the fix from bug 362612 would help on trunk, too.
Run the psfiles tool at various stages after starting up SeaMonkey,
especially before you first open the inbox. If you have grep you can use
it like this:
   psfiles | grep -i "inbox\|\.msf"
If the problem exists on trunk, you should see the files listed as open
before you actually access the mailboxes.

But actually the "real" fix would be to remove the premature opening of
files, which seems to be a bug in the mail backend.

Thanks, Peter, and thanks for your input in the bug, too. I'll have a
look at this today.

Cheers.
