Unsent Mail Issue

Fred S *****
Hello everyone,

I'm running T-Bird v 1.06 and really love the program.

I composed a message and wanted to send it out with another so I
selected SEND LATER from the File dropdown.

To my surprise, the Unsent Messages folder in my account does NOT show
that message. The message appears in the Local Folders, Unsent Messages
folder.

Can someone explain what is going on here?

Thanks, Fred

As far as I know, there is NO Unsent Messages folder within an
account.  Its only in Local Folders, and thats where the unsent
messages go.

Evidently there is, because I have one under my primary account. It
works too. Probably came in when I imported my stuff from 4.7x...

I would suspect you are correct about the import.  In an account
created in TB, there is no unsent messages folder in a separate account
tree.  All unsent messages are stored in the Local Folders unsent folder.

I tried to import my Net 4.8 mail and settings and it would only put
them into the Local Folders.

Thanks for the information Lee.

Should I go into my profile and delete the unsent mail folder there?

fwiw...
I'm using TB on 2 boxes. Both are installs over 4.7x and/or imported
settings from 4.7x after install.
Tried "send later" from accounts imported and accounts created new after
install/import.
All accounts place 'send later' email in the unsent folder under my
primary account... not in local folders. I guess I like this except that
one of the other accounts is my girlfriends and she might not think to
look in my account for her unsent stuff.

Hi again, Fred (and thanks for your PM)...

As others have mentioned, TB (and Mozilla Mail & Newsgroups) default to
using the Unsent Messages folder under your Local Folders tree. You
might want to check out http://www.ilias.ca/mozilla/mailnewsfaq/#unsent
which has directions for Mail & Newsgroups (which will probably also
work for TB, though you'll want to add the pref to user.js instead of
prefs.js - note that I haven't tried this with TB; I'm a SeaMonkey user)
to change the location of the (i.e., which) Unsent Messages folder.

I hesitate to say that.  I have never imported mail or settings from
NC4.x, so I cannot say what would happen.

You could backup your profile, give it a try, and if it causes problems,
restore your backup.

Hi Lee,

Well, I copied my profile for safety and then first RENAMED the Unsent
folder in my profile - it simply regenerated itself.

Also tried it on the one in Local Folders and it did the same thing. So,
it looks like T-Bird is set to do that and the only alternative appears
to be the Configuration option offered by Lewis Rosenthal for Mozilla
Mail in one of the previous replies to this posting.

I don't have time now to try that but will attempt it in the near future.

Will keep you posted.

Fred

Close TB, go into your profile and remove the unsent file and the
unsent.msf file.  Restart TB and it should be gone.  You cannot remove
the folders/files within the Local Folders.  They will be recreated.

Thanks gwtc, that worked.

Forgot that removing the folder and leaving the unsent messages and
unsent.msf would recreate - Thanks!

I still plan to see if I can re-do the user prefs file to move the
unsent folder out of Local Folders, later on.

Thanks again, Fred
