Thunderbird - Get All New Messages Customization

Bill Giel
Isn't this feature already implemented? (See below)

Under Tools|Account Settings|Server Settings

Uncheck "Check for new messages at startup"
Uncheck "Check for new messages every ____ minutes"
Uncheck "Automatically download new messages"

Then in "Advanced..." settings

Uncheck "Include this server when getting new mail"

To get mail from an account configured as above, you must specifically
select it from the main menubar's "Get Mail" pulldown.

Yup - that will work too - thanks.  But it's still not as simple and
elegant as having a single checkbox which specifically EXCLUDES an
account from the "Get All Mail" function.  That's what the original
poster was suggesting.

I also note that the item is only active when using the global inbox.
If you are using separate account trees, you're still stuck.

Yup - you're quite correct.  Hadn't noticed that.

So, the original suggestion still stands.  I'm sure there would be more
than just the OP and myself who would find that useful.

I agree, I would as well.

Err - not sure what you're trying to post there, but the first one was
blank, and the second one was full of HTML code as above. The quote
above is how it appears in my newsreader (Gravity). Usenet is a plain
text medium, so switch to plain text and whatever you're posting should
appear OK.

Isn't the extension Easy Get Mail Button
(addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/1877) the solution?

Thanks for that :)  I've looked at it on the website, but not installed
it - what's the difference between that extension, and the "Get All
Mail" button which now comes as part of MR Tech Local Install? (used to
be a separate extension)

As I haven't seen the "Get All Mail"-button, I cannot comment. However,
the "Easy Get Mail"-button gives you the option to get mails from all
accounts or from a specific account.

So far I have had much use for this extension....

Thanks for clarifying that.  However, the original suggestion was for a
checkbox on each account setup page to EXCLUDE that account from the
"Get All Mail" function.  That way, you could have numerous accounts,
and use the "Get All Mail" to retrieve all the mail EXCEPT for one or
two accounts.  That is the opposite of what the "Easy Get Mail" button
does.

In other words, that button is "all or one".  The suggestion was for
"all or some".  If you see what I mean <G>
