Seamonkey trunk builds

David T. Johnson
Has anyone gotten any of the Sea Monkey 2.0 trunk builds to work?  Or
any of the Sea Monkey 1.5 trunk builds from 8/06 or newer to work?  I
tried a couple of them and they all failed for one reason or another.
The most recent Sea Monkey 2.0 (6/26/07) build fails on install with the
message:

Error occurred during installation
INSPECTOR:  -214 DOES_NOT_EXIST

which is one of the stranger messages I've seen on OS/2.

Forget the installer, it will never work again. I have started work on
a WarpIn script but with WarpIn one cannot yet produce a similarly well
working installer (without many ugly hacks). So for now please use ZIP
packages and remember to unpack in a clean directory.

Unfortunately, the build is currently heavily broken on OS/2. We are
working to get it building again.

Does the installer on Firefox or Thunderbird or is it in the same
situation as the SeaMonkey installer?  Do ANY of the newer Seamonkey
trunk builds (<6 months old) actually work?  If so, do you know which
ones?  I'm just trying to get a handle on the browser situation for OS/2.

They never had an installer.

Those that finished building should work, but they are not really
usable. If you want something for day-to-day work use SeaMonkey 1.1.3 or
FX/TB 2.0.0.6.

Firefox and Thunderbird have never had installers on OS/2.

I think Peter gave you an accurate description:

Hopefully, that will change before Seamonkey 2.0 alpha 1, but as far as
I know, that doesn't even have a schedule yet.

Yes, I know that those will work.  I am not asking about how usable the
software is compared with something else but rather it will even run.
The newer builds that I've tried will not even load and run, even for a
few seconds.  If you have gotten one of the newer builds of Seamonkey to
load and run, I would like to know which one(s).  By 'load and run' I
mean that it is stable enough that it opens a window that can actually
be used to display a web page or two, even if poorly.

By "finished building" I meant a build where the ZIP has approximately
15MB size. All of them should work. The last one that I can see is
2007-07-03-08, it works here. The build of 2007-06-30-08 starts nicely, too.

Thanks for your reply.  I actually got the the 2007-07-03 build to run!
The problem here was that it barfed on the email database from SM 1.1.
Apparently SM 2.0 uses a new format and the import doesn't go well.
The 'Import Wizard' launched okay and seemed to import everything but SM
2.0 would not launch.  If I set it up in a clean directory with no prior
settings, messages, bookmarks, etc., it ran fairly well, at least for
the browser.  There was no 'Themes' option in preferences and the fonts
looked more like Windows than OS/2 but it ran.  The web pages also
'blinked' repeatedly while the data was loading but then displayed
properly when the loading was complete.  All in all, it looks like there
is still hope for a future Seamonkey beyond 1.1.3 (which runs here but
slowly, with lots of hesitations.)
