Reg. initiating localization for new language

Amol-3
Hi,

I would love to start localization of Firefox in Marathi(India). I have a couple of queries.

1. Has anybody initiated the localization of Marathi? ( I could not find any references in Bugzilla).

2. How does one go about managing it? I have read the details of how to do it on Mozilla localization page. But, are there any techniques any one of you can share from your own experience?

3. What is the typical timeframe within which localization can be completed for any language?

It'll be really helpful if someone can share their opinions.

Thanks,
Amol.

assuming you are working on this in your free time, say 2-4 hours a day,
it should take about a month starting from zero. not including the help
files.

90 hours of work? Really? Wow... that's a lot. How many strings are there?

My fast translation mode for PO files is roughly 100 strings per hour.
I just counted 3190 msgid:s in my PO files (converted from .dtd and
.properties) in browser/ and toolkit/.  This is 31 hours of fast
translation.  So it may be "rounded" to 50 hours (may prove more though
due to long strings, thinking/discussing about translation and others).
This assumes familiarity with used translation tool.

Regards,
ogi

http://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Localization_Teams#Marathi_.28mr-IN.29
references https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=298986 (which
you have already found, I see).

I'll leave the other questions up to localizers in general.
