Reg - Start renumbering of a bug in a new product

aram.subramanian

Hi,

Please do let me know how to report a bug starting from #1 for a new
product added to the existing Bugzilla database.
We got a 3 products say A,B,C. I have reported 10 bugs in ProductA. When
i start reporting bugs in ProductB, the bugID starts from 11.
I  want the BugID for ProductB to start from 1.
This should be the same for the other ProductC also

I searched for the renumbering of bugs in the net, but I didnot get any
supportive answer.
Kindly please do reply me.

we are currently using Bugzilla version 2.18.3

Thanks in advance

Regards,
Aram

Bug IDs don't work that way.  They are completely unique for the entire
bugzilla installation.  You might want to look at the "bug alias" field
though.

Hi,

Thanks for your immediate response.
Please do let me know how to make alias field enabled while entering a
new bug itself.
The bug alias field is edited only after the bug is entered and then
committing it once again.
Say for example, I am entering BugID:11 this bug is committed. If I then
go to this bugid and then only I am able to give the bug-alias as
"ex-001".
Also please do let me know how to generate the Bug-Alias automatically

Thanks,
Aram Valartha Bharathi. S

In version 2.22 this is possible.  I'm not sure how easy that'd be (if
possible at all) to get into 2.18.3 though.  Maybe time to upgrade.

You'd have to modify some of the perl to get that to be automatic.
