RE: Bugzilla No SASL mechanism found

Raysen Jia
I have tried the first link, it says I need install the module of Authen::SASL::XS, while when I try to install it, encounted the following error:

C:\Perl\bin>ppm install Authen::SASL::XS
ppm install failed: Can't find any package that provides Authen::SASL::XS

C:\Perl\bin>

Could you please help me find the way how to install it success?

Thanks.

If you think its an issue caused due to a missing module then, run "./checksetup.pl --check-modules" to see what is missing.

Our Env:
 Exchange 2003 deployed in 2007.
 Bugzilla 3.6.2 deployed in Oct/Sep-2010
Exchange 2010 deployed in Dec-2012, and is configured to route all email transport happen via the active Exchange 2003 itself.
Exchange 2003 Removed from network in April-2013.

The moment Exchange 2003 was removed from our network, we also got the same exact error message posted on first email on this thread. I am inclining to think the issue is more of whatever that is described here : http://www.advancedintellect.com/post/2011/03/02/Exchange-2010-and-SMTP-settings.aspx

But I would however wait to see updates on this thread. Appreciate if some one can share more light on this.

I can't open this page but from your description I would think that
your SMTP account for Bugzilla didn't use SMTP Auth in your old
Exchange and does use it on the new one, but you don't have the
necessary Perl packages needed install. Depending on your OS hosting
Bugzilla, run checksetup.pl, install optional *SASL packages and
whatever else your OS needs.

Thanks for the response, Thorsten. I tried to run the Checksetup for Bugzilla and I was confused by the feedback I got from that screen. Please find the screenshot of the CheckSetup Window at http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/5941/ck99.png .

A) The observation 1 is conflicting with the observation at 3
B) The observation 2 is conflicting with the observation at 4

Looks like you helped me discover a different issue trying to help investigate on the reported issue.

Appreciate if you can share your thoughts or if you feel am missing anything.

On the changes at Exchange Server - I was informed that these changes at http://www.advancedintellect.com/post/2011/03/02/Exchange-2010-and-SMTP-settings.aspx conflict with our organization's IT Policy and hence this didn't work out.

Thanks in advance,

VC

That means we require a newer version of those packages than your package repository has available.

Perl 5.10 is pretty old, you may try a more recent version like 5.14.
That's what I use unter Ubuntu Linux and Windows, both 64 Bit
versions. Regarding official ppm documentation Template-Toolkit should
be available in a more recent version for your Perl 5.10, don't know
why your ppm doesn't see it. You may try to remove and reinstall the
package and see what happens. But then there's still the issue that
checksetup.pl doesn't recognize your Search-Sitemap, don't have an
idea for that either. Normally this means missing packages which are
only recognized during runtime and may not be properly listed as
dependency for Search-Sitemap for ppm. The interesting thing is that
current versions of Bugzilla don't seem to need Search-Sitemap anymore
as I don't have it installed.

I doubt this was your problem at all. Your problem was about
installing SASL packages or alternatively you can sue sendmail for
Windows, which in current versions is able to do SMTP Auth without any
Perl packages needed.

Thanks for the quick responses; Will try with the SASL module route and update back. My plan is "if the sasl module installation doesn't work with the BZ version that we have, then I will proceed with other suggestions like upgrade etc" as anyways am looking to upgrade since a long time, but have been little afraid of losing the data stored in the custom-fields added.

Re: Bugzilla No SASL mechanism found

Hi all, I tried the SASL route and didn't work out after I spent most of my time in figuring out the stuff to get the SASL module to install in first place. While am certain that if I spend more time investigating, the cause can be figured out, and I guess, if I spend more or less similar amount of time, I can as well get upgraded to the latest version making all our (my team's) BugZilla-System users reap the related benefits. Appreciate if some one can confirm if their BugZilla version that works with their Exchange 2010 server, I can then make sure to install any version later than that. Thanks in advance VC

I don't think you necessarily need SASL within Perl, just use sendmail
or sendmail.exe which both are capable of doing SMTP Auth and
STARTSSL/TLS.
