Pontoon: how to see the context of an untranslated string

Jordi Serratosa
Hi

I'm not sure how other teams manage to do this in Pontoon.

Use case:
- There are some untranslated strings in project Firefox for iOS
- I enter the project and choose to only see the untranslated strings.
- There is one string that I'd like to see in context (that is, see the
previous and following strings, which are already translated) in order
to help me understand what it means and how it should be translated.

I do not find a way in Pontoon to achieve that.
There is no link that would open that specific string in the context of
the whole project.
If I modify the filters, Pontoon will go to the start of the file
instead of staying in the string I was on.

This also happens when I search for a string: I enter a text to search
for, I click the string in the search results, then I erase the search
text to see the surrounding strings. I would expect Pontoon to stay in
the string I had selected, but it does not.

I see in the URL there seems to be a string ID, for example:
https://pontoon.mozilla.org/ca/firefox-for-ios/all-resources/_?string=143747_
I realized that I can use it to tell Pontoon to go to that specific
string. However, I think it should not be that painful.

I think Pontoon should:
- Stay in the active string when changin filters (provided that the
string is filtered out by the selected filters)
- Provide a visible link to a particular string, so I could open a new
window directly to that string without any filter applied.

salut,
jordi s

There is a bug filled for this.
