You did but it's worth noting, not that I can reason what side effects
it will have except for their note that features will come faster.   I
just hope it doesn't force developers to rush fixes/features just
because a release date is coming.

Sort of, you said every 4 weeks and 🐴 Mr. Ed 🐴 said once a month.

No, Mozilla said 4 weeks and an increase in beta releases from twice a
week to unknown at this time. If similar to what they have today in
Firefox Nightly as the post indicates it will be twice a day.

I don't know how I posted the wrong reference link though. The
proofreader must have been on a coffee break.

Correct link is

Ugh. I hope this doesn't make more bugs. If it does, then I am
considering going to ESR to avoid them.

Some have moved to Chrome which also gets updated often.  I have
installed version 74.xxx and it looks promising (i have blocked
updates/upgrades).  Edge is also another possibility but some here will
hate anything created by Microsoft or Google, the two corporations that
controls the web these days.

Everything we do these days needs either Google product or Microsoft
product such as their cloud services.  Your ISP must be using either of
these corporation's infrastructure to provide you the service that you
enjoy!!   their cloud service costs pennies but they can charge you
dollars for their time and knowledge.

The ESR cycle?

"Starting Q1 2020, we plan to ship a major Firefox release every 4
weeks. Firefox ESR release cadence (Extended Support Release for the
enterprise) will remain the same. In the years to come, we anticipate a
major ESR release every 12 months with 3 months support overlap between
new ESR and end-of-life of previous ESR. The next two major ESR releases
will be ~June 2020 and ~June 2021."

I don't think you're up to date, a lot of the internet runs on *nix
based systems.  It's more multiuser.   Not saying that MS and Google
don't get their feet in there too, but they aren't the only big player
on the Internet.

What I find comical is we toss terms like Long Term and Extended Support
around with Firefox and I personally don't think it's either.  Long
Term? one year?     Extended Support? 3 months after a new product?

I guess it's perspective.

That would be 3 months of overlap between ESR releases.  It's where we
are currently with Firefox 60.9esr and 68.1esr both active.   68.0esr
released concurrent with Firefox 68.0, 68.1esr released concurrent with
69.0, and when Firefox releases 70.0, 60.xesr will be dead, and all
remaining 60.x users will be upgraded to 68.2esr.  The intention of
overlap is to allow orgs two versions to test the new ESR release before
being forced to abandon the old one.

Actually, this increases the support window for ESR versions, to pretty
much a full year.  With the current schedule, ESR cycles are shorter. I
did check, and Firefox 60 was released on the week of May 9, and the
release of Firefox 70 and 68.2esr (and end of 60esr) is scheduled for
the week of October 22.

I can only guess, but I suspect that the shorter cycle may mean less
"chemspill" x.x.1 releases, if non-severe problems are found within a
week or so of the next scheduled release.

As far as I'm aware "Long Term Support" and LTS are not terms used by
Mozilla -- those are used by other projects, such as Linux Kernel.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the acceleration of the release cycle (and
fixed release dates), because I prefer waiting for a release "when it's
ready", after adequate testing.  With fixed dates, it's too easy to push
something out that's not quite ready, and where waiting a few days to
ensure things are better tested would be preferable.  To me, this is
part of the fiasco with Microsoft's semi-annual updates to Windows 10,
because the release schedule is being driven by the needs of Microsoft's
marketing people, rather than technical reality.

With Mozilla, part of the issue is that they're chasing Google (which
updates Chrome very frequently), but Google has a lot more resources
than Mozilla does.

You did but Mr Ed wanted the official blog link like so:

<https://hacks.mozilla.org/2019/09/moving-firefox-to-a-faster-4-week-release-cycle/?utm_source=dev-newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=sep19-2019&utm_content=firefox>

Mr Ed is very fussy about his source.  He is happy to use some dodgy
links on cnet for his info.  I hate any site that is full of pop-ups and
ads.

Actually, you may not know this but most nix based systems are owned by
Microsoft or Google (indirectly actually)!!.  These two are so powerful
that they managed to get rid of Stallman from FSF.

<https://www.fsf.org/news/richard-m-stallman-resigns>

Stallman was the stumbling block about their plans about computer
industry in general.  Stallman wanted everything to be free while Google
and Microsoft wants something to be charged.  Stallman boycotted Google,
Amazon and Microsoft and this was not acceptable to the main "bankers"
of Open Source Foundation.  Now Mozilla wants to start a fund for 100
million to get something going and so they'll need both Google and
Microsoft (and amazon to a certain extent) for it.

<https://foundation.mozilla.org/en/blog/100-million-investment-reshape-economics-web/>

Also, Microsoft can rent you a server to run any of the nix based
servers on it and they'll manage it for you.  It's called Microsoft
Azure and you can get anything on it;  All you need is to have an
account on Microsoft Azure and you can run ubuntu or whatever on it.

Very soon we'll see the small vendors of dedicated servers out of
business like shops on your local high street.  everything will be
online with Microsoft,  Google or amazon.  If you want to run ubuntu,
you'll need either of these three because they will decide how software
is to be distributed.

Yeah. ESR. I spilled out Linux talk. It's not really a "long term
support" release if it doesn't go for a few years, IMO.

Honestly, an LTS Firefox might be a really good thing.

Really?? 1 million million devices??

With the worlds total population being something like 7 thousand
million, that 1 million million means there are about 150 devices
running Win 10 for every man, woman, child and baby on the Planet Earth.

Really??

All the satisfied customers are buying multiple devices with Windows 10
installed because they just can't get enough of them!!.   I have 63 or
64 if you count my old Optiplex 760 which also runs Windows 10.  how
many devices have you got?

Even Linux Junkies have started using Windows 10 because they don't want
to remain behind.  the world is moving very fast and upgrades are
released bi-annually.

Some people don't even know they are using Windows 10 because system
Admin have configured their machines to look like Windows 7.  the
wall-paper changes but that is minor.
