Maximum Number of Accounts in SeaMonkey?

Carl Gehr-3
I am using:
> Mozilla/5.0 (OS/2; U; Warp 4.5; en-US; rv:1.8.0.9) Gecko/20061224 SeaMonkey/1.0.7

Is there a maximum number of accounts that can be defined for SeaMonkey?
Either a maximum of total number of accounts or a maximum number of
E-Mail accounts?

I had seven NewsGroup accounts and three E-Mail accounts defined.  When
I have the Mail & NewsGroups window open, in the left panel, I have
always seen a list of the Mail Accounts (3), the Local Folders (1), and
the NG Accounts (7) that could be expanded to see the sub-folders under
each.

I tried to add a new [#4) E-Mail account.  SM took all of the
definitions and settings.  From looking at the list of accounts when I
click on 'View Settings...' the new account is there.

But, there are two problems:
1)  If I close the 'View Settings...' the left panel where all of the
accounts should be shown does not include the new E-Mail account.
2)  When I check the 'Copies and Folders' setting for the new account,
the drop-down list default is 'Local Folders' and the rest of the list
does not include the new account.  I could have the Sent, Drafts and
Templates go to the Local Folders or to any of the other three E-Mail
folders, but the new account is not there.

So, again, is there a limit?  Is there a bug?  Am I doing something wrong?

TIA,
Carl

Hi, Carl. I am not aware of a limit to the number of mail accounts in
SeaMonkey. I have more than you describe, and mine all work as expected.
Would you please check the filesystem to see if the default folders
(mbox files) were created for the new account? If not (as I suspect),
this may be related to bug # 311759
(https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=311759), though it's
rather old.

If the folders (files, actually) are indeed present on disk, try closing
SM and re-opening it. It's possible that the prefs.js for some reason
was not properly re-read with the new information.

Examine prefs.js (carefully) to see that the information for the new
account is indeed present in the file (it should be, as you are able to
view and edit settings in the UI for this new account).

When you created the account, I'm guessing that you used the account
creation wizard, and you did not check the option to use the "global
inbox". This is crucial to getting the folders created during setup.

Like Lewis I am not aware of a limit.  I currently have 4 email
accounts, 1 Local Folder, and 7 newsgroups.  I have recently paired
down to those numbers as I had had another email account in there and
1 or 2 more news servers.

OK, I checked the files/folders and they were all there.  I'm quite sure
I did not select the 'global inbox' but just to be sure I did not screw
something up, I just deleted the account and started over.  [I had not
attempted to use the account, so nothing was lost.]

Well, obviously I DID do something wrong, because after recreating the
account [I think the same way I did the first time.] it appeared in the
list of accounts AND the defaults for the 'Copies and Folders' was set
as I expected.

Sorry for the false alarm!

Thanks Lewis and Andy,
Carl
