Hi,

I was looking at your site and looking at the list of users that use
bugzilla, on page http://www.bugzilla.org/installation-list/

And noticed that IBM was there and clicked their link
http://www-124.ibm.com/developerworks/oss/linux/bugzilla/ , but got the
following page instead.

<snip>

developerWorks <http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/>  >

   *Open source projects*

We have recently made changes to the IBM developerWorks open source site.

The requested project cannot be found and may no longer be active.

Society of Critical Care Medicine is having some difficulty installing
Bugzilla and we've had little success finding a site or IRC room that will
respond to our requests for information. Do you have a suggestion where we
might be able to ask, what I think are, a few simple questions?

There is #mozwebtools on irc.mozilla.org where you can ask questions, or
the netscape.public.mozilla.webtools newsgroup. Details of all the
support options available for Bugzilla are available at

Also, while you're at it, please - feel free to just ask.  Asking to ask
just adds delay.

Getting help on IRC [was: ibm and bugzilla]

Dave Miller
In reply to this post by David Reid
David Reid wrote:

How long did you wait?  There's almost always people in there, though if
you hit at a point when people are busy or sleeping it may be an hour or
two before someone answers.  Generally once you get someone's attention
they're pretty responsive.

If you're continuing to have bad luck there, the mozilla-webtools list
(aka netscape.public.mozilla.webtools) is the next-best place to ask.
And as someone else mentioned before, either in IRC or on the mailing
list/newsgroup, if you can tell us a little bit about your problem it
will save some time...

For example, if you go on IRC and ask "can someone help me with
installing Bugzilla?", but everyone happens to be busy or sleeping or
whatever at the time...  an hour later, someone says "sure, what's up?"
but you were off doing something while you waited, and didn't see their
reply for 10 or 15 minutes.  Then you come back and ask your question
and that person's gone again.  If the question is stated up-front, then
they might have actually answered it when they saw it, and you wouldn't
have to wait for them again.

Kevin,
Thank you for offering to help out.  I am receiving the following error
message when running 'checksetup.pl':

Precompiling templates ...
/usr/bin/perl: relocation error:

I have attempted to include below several pieces of information regarding my
installation attempt including the full text of the 'checksetup.pl' run.
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Your perl-mysql driver is broken, you have to fix it first.  You can
test is with perl -MDBD::mysql. As long as you receive an error message,
it's no use to run checksetup.pl.

Benton, Kevin
In reply to this post by Gervase Markham
What version of MySQL are you using?  Did you re-install your Perl
DBD_mysql module since your last MySQL installation?  Upgrading MySQL
without upgrading the Perl module will generally cause problems.

99% of the time, when Perl throws a MySQL error from checksetup.pl, it's
due to a mismatch between the MySQL libraries and the Perl Module
libraries.  One way to check to see if you're able to get MySQL to work
with Perl is to run this little snippet of code:

#!/usr/bin/perl

use DBI;

$host='your_mysql_host';
$db='your_bugzilla_db';
$db_port='your_mysql_server_port_usually_3306'
$dbh=new DBI("DBI:mysql:host=$host;database=$db;port=$db_port")
          or die("Unable to create new connection to MySQL\n");
$sth=$dbh->prepare('select version()')
          or die("Your DB doesn't understand select version()\n");
$sth->execute() or die("A problem occurred while trying to execute the
prepared statement.\n");
@row=$sth->fetchrow_array();
print("got ${row[0]} back from MySQL\n");
exit;

Kevin,

I re-installed DBD & DBI via CPAN.  DBD was updated and DBI is reported as
already up-to-date.  I did receive an error running the Perl test script
regarding something in DBI.  All results are below.

[root@sccmbug root]# perl -MCPAN -e 'install "DBD::mysql"'
CPAN: Storable loaded ok

  There's a new CPAN.pm version (v1.76) available!
  [Current version is v1.61]
  You might want to try
    install Bundle::CPAN
    reload cpan
  without quitting the current session. It should be a seamless upgrade
  while we are running...

#!/usr/bin/perl

use DBI;

$host='your_mysql_host';
$db='your_bugzilla_db';
$db_port='your_mysql_server_port_usually_3306'
$dbh=new DBI("DBI:mysql:host=$host;database=$db;port=$db_port")
          or die("Unable to create new connection to MySQL\n");
$sth=$dbh->prepare('select version()')
          or die("Your DB doesn't understand select version()\n");
$sth->execute() or die("A problem occurred while trying to execute the
prepared statement.\n");
@row=$sth->fetchrow_array();
print("got ${row[0]} back from MySQL\n");
exit;

...

You're going to need to force it to reinstall DBD::mysql.

perl -MCPAN -e 'force install "DBD::mysql"'

This is due to the fact that the versions agree, but the libraries your
old DBD::mysql were compiled against were for an older version of MySQL.
The libraries have been changed so you need to force it to recompile the
module.

Kevin-

I performed the CPAN forced install of DBD which reported "make install --
OK".  I ran the script again and received the same error message.  Next I
performed a forced install of DBI which also reported "make install -- OK"
but again the script failed.  Attached are the outputs of each CPAN install.

Attached here is the output of the CPAN DBD
force and I'll send the DBI output in another email.

...

You're going to need to force it to reinstall DBD::mysql.

perl -MCPAN -e 'force install "DBD::mysql"'

This is due to the fact that the versions agree, but the libraries your
old DBD::mysql were compiled against were for an older version of MySQL.
The libraries have been changed so you need to force it to recompile the
module.

What OS is this machine running?

Is it a new install, or a machine which has been maintained for some time?

I looks like there are several CPAN issues burried deep in there.

btw is this a RHEL/clone system?

Re: [Fwd: ibm and bugzilla]

Benton, Kevin
In reply to this post by Gervase Markham
Did you try running the Perl code I sent you that would connect to
MySQL?

Also, in your localconfig, what user are you using?  Does that user have
access to MySQL?  Is it possible that you have two copies of MySQL or
Perl installed on your system?

Okay, that was my assumption, RHEL sometimes gets screwy on perl-mysql

can you give the output of

# rpm -qa | grep -iE 'mysql|perl' | sort

are you running the 'default' MySQL of 3.23.??? or something from
mysql.com?
