Firefox takes me to www.microsoft.com?

rog-3
When you type in "http://http" or "http" into the addressbar I get
taken to http://www.microsoft.com

How is this possible? Have they employed an avid $MS fan by mistake?
What is the world coming to?

I am using: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.10)
Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6
Mozilla 1.7.11 takes me to http://www.http.com which is where I would
expect to go.

http://www.http.com/ is where Mozilla also take me. Do you have enabled
the address bar also for searching? Maybee Ff give you the "I'm lucky"
hit? :)

By default, when you enter something that isn't a valid URL into the
location bar, Firefox does a Google I'm Feeling Lucky search of it and
sends you to the first result. http://www.microsoft.com/ is the first
result for the search "http":

<URL:http://www.google.com/search?q=http>

I believe you can turn this off by setting keyword.enabled to false in
about:config. (Type about:config in the location bar and hit Enter, type
"keyword" in the Filter box, and double-click keyword.enabled to set
it to false.)

(Her birthday was December 3rd, but it only happens once a year, so I
can leave this here a few days, right?)

It's a terrible choose for such a generic term.. This world be a much
better one: http://www.w3.org/Protocols/ I might even learn something
useful.

Are you listening Mr Google? You are at "war" with these people and are
placing me in their hands when I make an innocent mistake..

Wouldn't this depend on how the DNS server responded to the bad request?
I guess mine just returns an error (correct response in my opinion).

My Son, evacuated to Kentucky for the time being, has the exact same
experience as I do and running the same FF version. Dunno, beats me.
Mebbe it's hereditary? ;-)

This is true, but the actual location you get sent to depends of the
language and location, I'm in Costa Rica and by default google opens in
spanish so if I search "http" the first result I get is www.elpais.es,
but if I change the default language to english I get www.microsoft.com.
So, depending on the FF version (es/en) I'm using I'm taken to one page
or the other.
