About the importance of testing localization on Nightly

Francesco Lodolo [:flod]
Hi,
A quick message to stress out the importance of testing your
localization, using fully localized builds. This becomes crucial while
we make massive changes, like migrating Preferences to Fluent.

Finding bugs in Beta is too late, we need to identify them way before
that. Please test, and if you file bugs, please make sure to cc me
(:flod) on them.

A reminder that we also have documentation about testing
https://mozilla-l10n.github.io/localizer-documentation/products/firefox_desktop/testing.html
https://mozilla-l10n.github.io/localizer-documentation/products/firefox_android/testing.html

How many Fluent migration do we expect to happen in Preference in this
cycle? I would like to QA the whole thing only once.

All XUL panels are now migrated, with the exception of a few strings
that require changes to Fluent code.

We're in the process of migrating the subdialogs, and that should land
before the end of the cycle, but it's also a big group of patches (about
150 strings spread across 12 patches).

Re: About the importance of testing localization on Nightly

Delphine L
Hey everyone,

I can't help but pile on top of what Flod has already mentioned, and extend
that to "pretty please test before any products ship" :D
For all mobile projects (except Firefox Android), there are screenshots for
testing. You can find them linked at the top left of the project page in
Pontoon, next to "Resources".

Many of these projects (including Firefox for Android) have localized test
builds that you can use too.

All of the details can be found in the localizer documentation we've
written out, under the "Testing" section of each product:
https://mozilla-l10n.github.io/localizer-documentation/

Teams work very hard to create screenshots for localizers (as well as
localized builds), and unfortunately the past few mobile releases we've
caught bugs last minute, that could have been caught much earlier on if we
were all testing regularly.

If anything in regards to mobile testing is not clear, please do reach out
directly to me and I'm always more than happy to help clarify anything! :)

thanks!
delphine
