[ANNOUNCE] Thunderbird 3.0.x maintenance releases - PLEASE OPT-IN HERE

Simon Paquet-2
Hi guys,

Thunderbird 3 should be released within the next few hours, so here
comes the opt-in thread for all the maintenance and security releases
that will follow Thunderbird 3, eg. 3.0.1, 3.0.2, 3.0.3, etc.

Therefore please opt in for the maintenance releases of Thunderbird 3
by following up to this thread, referencing your locale, and the
revision, as given by hg ident, or a link to your hg repo with the
revision, like in
http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/l10n-mozilla-1.9.1/is/rev/d3149b98457a or
http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/l10n-mozilla-1.9.1/is/file/d3149b98457a

You can update your locale anytime you want to and we'll try to
incorporate your changes into the next possible release.

The last updates we took for Thunderbird 3 were for the RC2. So all the
locales that have updated their changesets since then are already on my
list for an update in 3.0.1. My current list looks like this:

ar         69534b40b929
ca         14912595d166
de         d1bdeb0764a5
es-AR      50b9c0bb8f2f
es-ES      3311ccc1de42
eu         693b3a63bbfc
fy-NL      bacb848cae3a
is         db2f67c65d06
it         87ab83fa36ad
nl         cafb1d7a58d7
sk         6bf97a76147a
sq         5975fd959a0e
zh-TW      27886bd583b7

Guys, please check this and tell me if there's already a newer
revision with Thunderbird string changes for your locale.

As to what's in Thunderbird 3.0, you can look at the last list of
locale changesets that we took for Thunderbird 3.0:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=415215

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here.

Hi Simon,

For Arabic (ar), the changeset in your list (69534b40b929) is newer
than the one in the bug attachment (7090764ef03a). Please update to
the newest one.

Regards

Anas, this is exactly as expected. As I said earlier, the changeset
in the bug attachment was used for TB3. The changeset in the list
came too late to make it into TB3, so it will be used for TB 3.0.1.

Kevin, that change broke the dashboard. See
http://l10n.mozilla.org/buildbot/compare/hg-comm-langpack/35258

I'll therefore not take this changeset until this issue is fixed.

Please be advised that yu are watching the right repository for changes
in Thunderbird code. TB 3.0.x changes are done in this repository
http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/comm-1.9.1 and it is not expected that
we're doing any string changes there.

In case we do, I'll announce this here loud and clear.

I'm not sure what to do here, as our old translator
abandoned ship. We are almost finished with the danish
translation - we just need to proof read the translations.
Do I opt in now, or when we are finished?

Any deadline for 3.01?

Kind regards

I doubt that your old translator could help you here, since the process
for localizing TB has evolved somewhat from the TB2 days ;-)

> We are almost finished with the danish translation - we just need to

One issue is still outstanding for you to opt-in and that is the web
l10n part of this release.

You can find the relevant tracking bugs here:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=523583
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=526087
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=532250

I've already asked Pascal Chevrel to file the relevant bugs for your
locale and populate your SVN repository with the appropriate files
that need to be translated.

> Any deadline for 3.0.1?

Not yet, but since Danish is a latecomer without any public exposure
of its localization during the TB3 beta phase, I'd like to expose
the Danish localization as "beta" for 3.0.1 or 3.0.2 and only make
your localization "official" if you had had some public exposure.

Does this sound okay for you, Kim?

We have quite a few proof readers and the translators are
very experienced in translating Mozilla software. I would
appriciate if we can avoid the beta label.

Okay. Pascal has now filed the necessary bugs as you can see on
http://l10n.mozilla.org/webdashboard/?locale=da

Please take a look at them and opt-in for TB 3.0.1 once you've
fixed the four TB website bugs.

I know that you guys are doing a great job, but I'd really like
to follow the process that Seth Bindernagel laid out for Firefox in
http://blog.mozilla.com/seth/2008/12/15/moving-a-locale-out-of-beta/

My main issue really is the public exposure to "normal" Danish users
and I'd like you to have at least one release with the beta label,
that you can use to gather wide feedback from the Danish user
community.

I have a *preliminary* timeline for Thunderbird 3.0.1 now:

Basically I will accept all opt-ins until January 5th 2010. I'd also
appreciate it, if those of you, who have not completed all the TB3
website bugs (there are quite a few locales that didn't complete them
yet), would do so until then.

Please see
http://l10n.mozilla.org/webdashboard/?project=8&task=Thunderbird+3+in-product+pages
for the relevant bugs and the list of affected locales.

Thanks
Simon Paquet

Without asking permission from Guillermo nor Marcelo, :-) I'd like to
note that es-AR has actually done all TB3 product pages; it is just
that this bug:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=532265

appears as pending in the web dashbard, despite Guillermo's comment
about having committed changes to SVN.

Setting follow-up to m.d.l10n.web

Best regards,

Ricardo
